Insights from Andee Chua

1) On Culture: What’s one thing you or your team does regularly to build a strong, positive workplace culture?

One simple but powerful thing we do to build a strong, positive workplace culture is to host a regular Virtual Community Lunch. It started during the COVID lockdowns as a way to stay connected while working from home. And even now, with over 70% of our employees working remotely, it remains a key ritual that brings us together.

Each session, we intentionally group participants into small “trust circles” with colleagues they’re unlikely to interact with —whether due to location, function, or hybrid work preferences. With thoughtful conversation prompts, these lunches help spark genuine connection and deeper understanding across our global team.

It’s a simple, scalable way to foster belonging and maintain a strong culture in a hybrid world.

2) On Impact: What’s one HR initiative you led or supported that made a clear impact on your team or company? What changed because of it?

One initiative I’m especially proud of is leading the design and launch of two global flagship programs at HubSpot: the Global Culture Champion Program and the ERG Leadership Program. Together, these initiatives onboarded over 200 volunteer leaders across our global offices and remote hubs.

Both programs were built to scale our culture and inclusion efforts sustainably by empowering employees to take ownership of building connection, fostering belonging, and driving inclusive practices. As a result, we created more localized, human- centered culture experiences and strengthened the sense of community across our global, hybrid workforce—ensuring that employees feel seen, supported, and included, no matter where they work from.

3) On the Future: What’s one key skill or mindset you think every HR professional in Singapore will need in the next 5 years - and why?

One key mindset HR professionals in Singapore will need in the next five years is the belief that culture and inclusion are not the responsibility of one team, but a shared effort. The skill lies in empowering and inspiring employees to take ownership of culture-building, whether through champion networks, employee-led initiatives, or grassroots communities.

By enabling others to lead, we create a more scalable, sustainable, and inclusive culture—one that’s co-created, not top-down. This approach not only deepens engagement but also fosters a sense of belonging and shared purpose across the organization.
