Insights from Annie Lim

1) On Culture: What’s one thing you or your team does regularly to build a strong, positive workplace culture?

We prioritise listening—through regular engagement touchpoints, open-door coaching, and employee voice platforms—so every team member feels heard, valued, and empowered. Culture becomes real when people believe they belong and know their contributions matter.

2) On Impact: What’s one HR initiative you led or supported that made a clear impact on your team or company? What changed because of it?

The development of our first cross-functional Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), including one focused on DEIB, parents and learning communities. These platforms created safe spaces for dialogue, peer support, and policy feedback, which directly informed our flexible work and caregiving initiatives. It not only improved employee experience but also reinforced a culture of inclusion and shared ownership.

3) On the Future: What’s one key skill or mindset you think every HR professional in Singapore will need in the next 5 years - and why?

The ability to lead with empathy and compassion, while leveraging data-driven insights, will be essential. As the workplace continues to evolve in complexity and pace, HR professionals must embody the principles of the Care Economy—prioritizing human well-being, emotional intelligence, and inclusive practices. Balancing care with evidence-based decision-making will be key to building trust, fostering resilience, and creating meaningful impact across diverse and dynamic workforces.

4) What’s one HR initiative or practice you believe more companies should adopt to build stronger teams or workplaces - and why?

In an era shaped by digitalization and AI, HR must lead the shift toward a human-centric workforce—placing mental well-being at the heart of organizational strategy. This means embedding empathy, compassion, and dignity into every aspect of the employee experience. By creating psychologically safe environments through inclusive communication, supportive policies, and proactive mental health initiatives, HR professionals not only protect well-being but also unlock human potential, trust, resilience, and sustainable performance across the organization.

5) What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting their career in HR or people leadership?

Stay curious, stay connected. Build relationships across functions, ask bold questions, and never stop learning—because the best HR leaders are those who grow alongside the people they serve.

6) What’s one workplace trend you’re excited about - and one you’re cautious of?

I’m excited about excited about the rise of human-centric leadership that puts mental well-being, empathy, and psychological safety at the core of work—proving that caring for people drives lasting performance.

I am cautious of the unchecked use of AI in decision-making, which risks removing human context and compassion. HR must ensure tech supports—not replaces—human judgment.
