Insights from Iris Gam

1) On Culture: What’s one thing you or your team does regularly to build a strong, positive workplace culture?

Our team is grounded in Autonomy, Mastery, and Purpose—principles championed by Daniel Pink in Drive. Autonomy empowers us to take ownership of our work and passions. Mastery drives us to learn continuously and deliver our best. Purpose connects us to something bigger than ourselves.

We’re self-motivated, driven, and committed to lifting each other up to do meaningful work. To stay aligned and inspired, we hold weekly team meetings to share company updates, reflect on key learnings, spotlight upcoming events, and solve challenges together. In addition, weekly 1-on-1s with managers provide space for each team member to deep-dive into priorities, track progress, and support individual growth.

2) On Impact: What’s one HR initiative you led or supported that made a clear impact on your team or company? What changed because of it?

I led the redesign and rollout of a new performance management system. From this exercise, I used the insights into performance drivers to build a strong business case for further investments in other talent initiatives — including enhanced HRIS analytics, employee engagement, leadership development, and structured career pathways. This process sparked intense conversations among the senior leadership team on our talent priorities and fostered greater ownership of the entire talent ecosystem. As a result, there was stronger adoption of these initiatives across the organization.

3) On the Future: What’s one key skill or mindset you think every HR professional in Singapore will need in the next 5 years - and why?

It is agility. Agility is essential for HR professionals to drive organizational success in a rapidly evolving business landscape. To stay competitive, HR must plug into the business, anticipate change, and proactively lead transformation. Whether rethinking workforce plans, reinventing talent strategies, or championing cultural shifts, HR professionals must model strategic focus, flexibility, and a relentless commitment to innovation.
