Insights from Jamie Anne Ysrael

1) On Culture: What’s one thing you or your team does regularly to build a strong, positive workplace culture?

We prioritize fostering genuine human connections across markets, teams, and roles. We regularly gather feedback through leadership-led engagements, grassroots employee events, internal campaigns, and interactive content on our internal channels to understand what matters most to our people. These touchpoints are not just activities—they're opportunities to build a culture where employees feel seen, heard, and part of something bigger. This ongoing dialogue helps individuals connect not just with their colleagues and leaders, but also with the company’s values and purpose, grounding everyday work in shared meaning.

2) On Impact: What’s one HR initiative you led or supported that made a clear impact on your team or company? What changed because of it?

In a previous tech company I worked in, I led a transformation in our people communications strategy—shifting from traditional, static formats to dynamic content like vlogs, mobile-first campaigns, and authentic storytelling. Historically, communications operated separately from HR, but as business dynamics evolve rapidly, integrating people communications into HR has been beneficial. The initiative earned internal and external recognition, including high ratings and awards—but more meaningfully, employees shared that it deepened their sense of pride and connection to the company. It wasn’t just about changing formats; it was about making communications more human, inspiring, and engaging—ultimately reinforcing our culture in ways that truly resonated.

3) On the Future: What’s one key skill or mindset you think every HR professional in Singapore will need in the next 5 years - and why?

Agility with empathy. As the workplace continues to evolve—with advancements in AI and shifting workforce expectations—we must navigate change swiftly without compromising human connection. Balancing innovation with a people-first approach will be crucial to keep employees anchored and engaged. Embracing storytelling will also play a key role, helping us humanize messages, rally people around shared narratives, and communicate with authenticity.

4) What’s one piece of advice you’d give to someone just starting their career in HR or people leadership?

Have a hunger for lifelong learning beyond traditional HR boundaries. I began my career in marketing without an HR background, but my passion for people and culture led me to explore various disciplines. I delved into new trends, technologies, and even what I seemingly thought were unconnected topics like storytelling and theater. They provided me with a more holistic view of people, our motivations and experiences. This diverse learning journey enriched my perspectives in HR and the future.

5) What’s one workplace trend you’re excited about — and one you’re cautious of?

We see the rise of gig work and alternative employment models. It’s reshaping how people view their careers—less about climbing one ladder, and more about exploring the many possibilities. While it’s exciting to see how the trend promotes flexibility, autonomy, and growth, offering individuals the freedom to explore, learn, and build multi-faceted careers, it challenges us to rethink how we engage and support talent. This shift is a chance for us to pause, carefully weigh the benefits, and rethink how we can inspire our people to be productive, impactful, and deeply connected to our culture and purpose amidst their changing views on work and their career journeys.
