Insights from Julie Lee

1) On Culture: What’s one thing you or your team does regularly to build a strong, positive workplace culture?

I partner with business stakeholders to develop people strategies, manage and grow human capital, and solve business challenges. We actively engage employees by involving them in company projects and initiatives, fostering a sense of ownership and belonging that strengthens workplace culture.

2) On Impact: What’s one HR initiative you led or supported that made a clear impact on your team or company? What changed because of it?

I partnered with the business to turn around a high-risk client project with over 30 employees. The client’s demanding environment caused attrition and flight risk. I coached the Client Account Director on managing client expectations and implemented initiatives to retain our team: educating managers on engagement, introducing gratitude incentives, celebrating milestones, ensuring rest periods, and maintaining regular site visits. Open communication and inviting the client to milestone celebrations helped rebuild trust. As a result, employee morale improved, 95% were retained and 12% got promoted, and project revenue grew from $1.5M to nearly $10M within a year. We also conducted focus groups to capture lessons learned, strengthening future project management and client handling practices.

3) On the Future: What’s one key skill or mindset you think every HR professional in Singapore will need in the next 5 years - and why?

HR professionals must evolve as AI transforms traditional HR functions. Rather than fear replacement, we must harness AI to boost productivity and elevate the function—without losing the human touch. AI lacks empathy, intuition, and moral judgment, which are essential in shaping employee experiences and culture. HR leaders must cultivate critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and ethical reasoning to make sound, people-centered decisions. As the world of work becomes more complex, skills in change leadership, data literacy, and inclusive communication will also be vital. AI should remain a tool—powerful but subordinate—to human values and wisdom. HR’s true power lies in its ability to connect, inspire, and shape better workplaces for all.

4) What’s one HR initiative or practice you believe more companies should adopt to build stronger teams or workplaces — and why?

More companies should adopt structured peer learning and cross-functional knowledge sharing. It builds trust, breaks silos, and fosters a culture of curiosity and collaboration. In a fast-changing world, enabling employees to learn from one another not only strengthens teams but also drives agility and continuous growth.
